Why every SaaS website is starting to look the same

June 2, 2026 · 1 min read · by Rashid

Purple gradients, floating dashboard mockups, "trusted by 10,000+ teams". Template thinking is flattening the web - and it's a conversion problem too.

Screenshot ten SaaS homepages today and squint. You couldn't tell them apart. Same purple gradient, same floating dashboard mockup tilted at the same angle, same "Trusted by 10,000+ teams" logo row, same three-column feature grid.

This isn't a coincidence. It's the rise of template thinking - design patterns copied from whoever was successful last quarter, stripped of the reasons they worked.

Why it happened

Two forces: component libraries made it cheap to look "modern," and nobody got fired for copying the market leader. The result is a web where differentiation by design has quietly disappeared.

Why it's actually a conversion problem

When every site looks the same, none of them can command attention - or trust. A visitor comparing three tools sees three versions of the same page. The decision falls to price, or worse, to whoever they heard of first. All the craft that could have made you memorable got flattened into "best practices."

The irony: the companies being copied won by not looking like everyone else at the time.

What to do instead

  • Lead with your actual product, in its actual context - not a mockup floating over a gradient.
  • Write like your company talks. Template copy is as visible as template design.
  • Find the one thing your customers say about you that competitors' customers don't. Put it everywhere.

Standing out doesn't require being louder. It requires being specific - which is exactly what templates can never be.

Enjoying this? There's more where it came from - and if your website is the thing keeping you up at night, I can help with that too.
